April 9, 2026
It’s here! From today until 19 April 2026, cinemas in Prague, Brno, Ostrava, and other cities will come alive with the best of contemporary European cinema. For the thirty-third time, we are in for a wave of bold debuts, provocative visions, strong female stories, and films where music takes centre stage.
We are launching this year’s edition in style – at Prague’s Přítomnost cinema with the melodrama Three Goodbyes (Tre Ciotole) directed by Isabel Coixet. One of Europe’s finest actresses, Alba Rohrwacher, delivers a standout performance in the lead role. This film, structured in three chapters of a fateful relationship, is full of emotion, twists, and typical Spanish temperament – promising a powerful opening to the festival. As every year, the traditional witty and informal opening ceremony will add the right spark and true festival atmosphere to the evening.
What not to miss in the first days?
In the competitive section First Time, seven striking debuts will be presented – from the dark hypnotic romance White Snail, through the intimate coming-of-age story Weightless, to the raw black metal love in Wolves. These first features show that the new generation of European filmmakers is not afraid to go deep and take risks.
In the Film & Music section, the screen will merge with rhythm and sound. In Panorama, big names will shine: François Ozon with his black-and-white adaptation of Camus (The Stranger), Radu Jude with his wild Dracula, Kasia Adamik with the historical drama Winter of the Crow, and the visually stunning documentary Whispers in the Woods by Vincent Munier.
Strong female voices are also well represented – films such as Love Me Tender, Deaf, Julian, and Little Trouble Girls offer bold and personal perspectives on identity, motherhood, and adolescence. And of course, you have the chance to directly influence the outcome of the prestigious LUX Audience Award. Don’t forget the unique festival atmosphere – the big screen, shared experience, and post-screening discussions.
This year’s festival once again proves that European film is alive, diverse, provocative, and important. It speaks about what troubles us, entertains us, and makes us think.
So grab the programme, choose your first films, and head to the cinema!
May these eleven days be full of powerful stories, great music, and unforgettable experiences.
