It’s official – the 33rd Days of European Film has begun! On Thursday, 9 April, we launched the festival at Prague’s Přítomnost cinema with the melodrama Three Goodbyes (Tre Ciotole) directed by Isabel Coixet, starring the outstanding Alba Rohrwacher.
This year’s opening brought a surprise. For the first time, the winners of two main competitive sections were announced right on the opening night. As moderator Lukáš Rumlena wittily remarked:
“It’s an improvement in the name of sustainability. More parties like this in one week would simply be unbearable.”
The awards were presented by the jury chairs Zuzana Tvarůžková (Film & Music section) and Dagmar Sedláčková (First Time section). The winners received their glass cylinders through representatives of their embassies.
Winners of the evening:
Best Film Debut – Reedland (Netherlands, dir. Sven Bresser)
Best Music Film – Celtic Utopia (Sweden/Ireland, dir. Lars Lovén)
Both films received loud applause and set the bar very high on the very first day.
The opening night had a fantastic atmosphere – a full house, genuine emotions, humour, elegant dresses, and memorable moments. And this is just the beginning! We still have ten more days full of powerful stories, great music, and unforgettable experiences ahead of us.
Come and join us in the cinemas – in Prague, Brno, Ostrava, and other cities. The full programme and tickets are available at eurofilmfest.cz.
See you at the screenings!
